House fails to override governor’s veto of transgender sports ban; session ends with no overrides
BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The full House failed to override Gov. John Bel Edwards’s veto of the transgender sports ban bill with a vote of 68-30 on Wednesday, July 21, and the session ended just hours later.
The motion failed and SB 156 remains vetoed. A total of 70 votes “For” were needed to reach the two-thirds supermajority.

The House and Senate later decided to adjourn the session without overriding any of the governor’s vetoes.
House Speaker Clay Schexnayder (R-Gonzales) issued the following statement after the session ended:
It was the first veto override session since Louisiana ratified its constitution in 1974.
