PRAIRIEVILLE, La. (WAFB) - Detectives with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office said the deadly shooting on I-10 in Prairieville on Thursday, Dec. 2, was “not random,” and that the victims were likely targeted.

Around 11:30 pm, deputies were called to a scene, a truck not moving in the middle of I-10 Westbound near Prairieville.

“The vehicle had been shot multiple times, and inside the vehicle, we located a male that had been deceased from gunshot wounds,” explained Lt. Col Donald Capello.

That man was found in the passenger side of the truck. Authorities said the driver was also taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds. He’s expected to survive.

“Neither one are from Ascension Parish. They are both from the Greater Baton Rouge area. So, that’s why we kind of tend to believe that this incident pretty much started outside of the parish, it just ended up in our parish,” added Capello.

Ascension Parish investigators are still trying to piece together exactly what happened. They said the driver is talking with them. As of right now, they have no suspects but want to assure the public this was not a random act.

“This is very unusual, this is not the type of thing that happens in Ascension Parish on our interstates. It really appears this is some type of situation going on between some groups outside of our parish, and that was probably some type of retaliation,” said Capello.

Anyone with information on this case is urged to contact the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office at 225-621-4636 or by texting 847411 to an anonymous tip line from any cellular device.
