Court revokes bond for man accused of shooting at multiple people in Livingston Parish, injuring 1

LIVINGSTON PARISH, La. (WAFB) - A man arrested by Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office after allegedly shooting at multiple people cannot bond out of jail, according to officials.

District Attorney Scott M. Perrilloux said his office obtained a court order to prohibit Douglas Maurras, 45, from bonding out of jail because he is believed to be an imminent threat to the community.

“We were able to secure an order from Judge Charlotte Foster that will keep Mr. Maurras from having a bond obligation until a hearing which will most likely be held in the upcoming week,” Perrilloux said.

Records show Maurras is charged with two counts of attempted first degree murder, three counts of aggravated criminal damage to property, illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities, simple criminal damage to property, criminal trespassing, unlawful use or possession of body armor, and two counts of battery/correctional employee - minor injuries.

The shootings reportedly began around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22, along Highway 16 in French Settlement.

Maurras is believed to have fired several rounds inside his home before going to nearby properties, according to the DA’s office.

Officials said deputies responded to a shots fired call and found a man who had been shot numerous times.

First responders took the man, identified as Maurras’ neighbor, to the hospital where he is critical but stable from the gunshot wounds, officials added.

While emergency services treated the victim, authorities said they were alerted about another shooting in French Settlement that involved the same dark gray sedan witnesses reported seeing their suspect flee in.

Maurras traveled down Highway 42 where he fired a shot at a parked work van, but no one was injured, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies said Maurras then traveled to Springfield where he followed a potential victim to their home.

He fired one round at the victim and missed, hitting the home, deputies added.

Authorities arrested Maurras after he was spotted exiting his vehicle wearing a black mask and body armor, according to the DA’s office.

Witnesses said he was wearing these items at the time of the shootings.

“We believe Maurras to be the sole suspect and sole person responsible for all incidents,” Sheriff Jason Ard said.

His bond was originally set at $800,000, officials said.
